Road to Final Bayern Munnich vs Chealsea
Posted on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 by Insurance Quotes Health
So, Bayern Munich will play the Champions League final against Chelsea in their own stadium. Surely that’s unfair?
Not only are Bayern playing in their own stadium, they’ve also been drawn in the home side of the draw, so they’ll get to use their own dressing room.
What difference will that make?
Not much, actually. They share the ground with 1860 Munich and both teams have top-spec dressing rooms so there will be no unfair advantages. Unlike at the Emirates, where Arsenal have a non-slip floor in theirs while the away changing-room floor is shiny and has a tall workbench to disrupt communication. Bayern’s red lockers shouldn’t give them too much of an advantage unless Chelsea let their grey ones put them off.
Field of dreams: The Allianz Arena will host the Champions League final
Have Bayern Munich been any good there this season?
In the league they have played 16 games, won 13, drawn one and lost two. They have scored 47 goals — almost three per game — and only conceded six. That’s 0.38 per game. So, yes.
Have a team ever won a European Cup final at their own stadium?
Yes, on two out of three occasions. Real Madrid beat Fiorentina 2-0 at the Bernabeu in 1957 and Inter Milan earned a 1-0 win over Benfica at San Siro in 1965. On the other occasion, in 1984, Liverpool beat Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on penalties.
I’ve seen the stadium change colour — how does that work?
The outer shell of the Arena is constructed of 2,760 ‘cushions’ that are permanently inflated. The skin of these is less than the thickness of a sheet of paper. The bubbles shine white, red and blue and will be lit up half in blue and white and half in red to represent the teams in the final.
All lit up: The outside of the Allianz Arena can change colour
That must use up a lot of energy?
There are 4,250 lights and 25,344 special fluorescent tubes involved and the whole stadium costs £40.81 per hour to illuminate. The light can be seen from the Austrian mountain peaks 47 miles away.
What if I get hungry during the match?
Have no fear. During the final more than one sausage per second will be sold. On match days the 28 refreshment kiosks are open for four-and-a-half hours and sell an average of 20,000 sausages.
Can I get a ticket?
You’ll be lucky. Bayern Munich have filled their 69,000 maximum capacity all season and have had more than a million requests for final tickets — but they will be restricted to the same 17,500 allocation as Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge club’s fans will be in the north stand and tickets are priced between £57 and £302. And the capacity for the final will be reduced to 66,000, because seats will have to be installed on the Arena’s standing terrace to fulfil UEFA regulations.
